Black Lives Matter at SJ today and every day.
As a school community, SJ is committed to upholding the dignity, fighting for the rights of, protecting the safety of, and celebrating the stories of our Black students. As the School of Social Justice we know we have a particular responsibility in centering the voices of Black students, admitting when we misstep, always reflecting on how to equitably serve our Black SJ students, and actively engaging staff and students on how to improve their educational experience, whatever form it may take in our current global context. |

11th Grade Service Learning Project (February 2020)Every year, each grade level participates in a Service Learning Project (SLP) centered around the studying, understanding, and spreading awareness of a particular -ism.
Our 11th grade students spend the year learning and unpacking racism. During the 2019-2020 school year, SJ juniors chose to focus on the impact of racism on Black students, including the school to prison pipeline and the overrepresentation of Black people in the United States prison system. Prior to the school closures, 11th graders planned and held a campus rally in support of Black Lives Matter, inviting speakers and giving speeches themselves. 11th Grade Service Learning Project: Black Lives Matter Rally images to the left.
